FAQ

Wallpaper

Can I install your wallpaper in the bathroom?

Our wallpapers can absolutely be used in a bathroom but some ventilation in the space (a window or vent) is preferred, and it would be a good idea to talk to your wallpaper installer about double-pasting the corners for extra insurance against humidity.

“I ordered 8 rolls of wallpaper. Why did I only receive 4?”

Our wallpapers are usually shipped in double rolls, but depending on the quantity order, are sometimes shipped in single or triple rolls as well. Double and triple rolls are preferred by installers because there is less waste in the installation process. The rolls are usually marked at the top as “2 S/R” for doubles, which are 10 yards in length, or “3 S/R” for triples, which are 15 yards in length. Your installer can verify by measuring. If you are unable to verify that the quantity you received is correct, please get in touch.

Do you sell double or single rolls?

We stock both double and single and even at times triple rolls. However, our rolls are priced by the single roll. Please feel free to contact us at orders@lakeaugust.com to check availability.

How to purchase double or triple rolls?

If your onsite wallpaper installer is requesting 5 double rolls, you would add 10 single rolls to your cart, as we price our rolls by the single roll. When you are ready to place your order please go to cart and on the bottom left side you will see a section “Add a note to your order”. In that section please write how you wish to have your rolls to be sent. For this example, one would write Please send my order as 5 double rolls.

How much wallpaper should I order?

We highly recommend speaking with your onsite wallpaper installer for a quantity estimate. We are happy to assist with an estimate but do not guarantee estimates. If you would like our assistance with quantity, please send over the height and width of each wall that you are planning to wallpaper. Please disregard windows and doors as they are typically rarely factors when calculating estimates, unless they make up a significant portion of the wall.

Lastly, our wallpaper is hand-printed in small batches, and shades may vary from dye lot to dye lot as our inks are hand-mixed. It is important to keep this in mind if placing orders for the same project at different times, or if ordering additional wallpaper. We recommend that you order all of your rolls at the same time to ensure that you receive rolls all from the same dye lot.

I am short on wallpaper rolls. How do I order additional ones?

When ordering additional rolls it’s important to see if we have rolls available from the same dye lot as your previous order. This will ensure that there is no difference in shade. Please send us an email with your previous order number as well as the new one so that we can see if we have rolls still available.

If we no longer have your original dye lot in stock, we are able to send a cutting to our printers and they will do their best to match that dye lot. However we can not guarantee an exact match. The lead time to print additional rolls can be from 6-10 weeks depending on the pattern.

Where is my lot number and why is it important?

The dye lot number can be found on the bottom left corner of the backside of each roll as well as on your packing slip. Our wallpaper is made in small batches and all of our colors are hand-mixed for each production run. Due to the nature of how our wallpaper is made, we cannot guarantee a 100% match in shades from one dye lot to another. This is important to keep in mind when ordering additional rolls for the same space to avoid rolls having differences in shades.

My wallpaper has been installed. Why does the pattern not match in every place?

Because our papers are screen printed by hand, there may be as much as a 1/8" margin of difference in matching the repeat (i.e. it may not always match up exactly, as machine-printed papers do). Most wallpaper installers will match the seams at eye level, while further up toward the ceiling or down toward the floor the seams will not always match exactly. Please know that this imperfection is not a “flaw” but a mark of true craftsmanship: you can be proud to know that your wallpaper was printed by skilled human hands, and not a computer

How to clean your wallpaper?

All of our wallpapers are clay-coated and can be cleaned with a damp sponge. Do not use abrasives or harsh chemicals.

Is your wallpaper suitable for commercial projects?

Our wallpapers are U.S. Class A fire-rated and suitable

for both residential and commercial uses.

What is the best way to match paint to your wallpaper?

Feel free to get in touch with us at orders@lakeaugust.com about a suitable paint color match. Otherwise, take a piece of your chosen wallpaper to your local paint store for matching.

Fabric

Do I need to knit back for Upholstery?

We recommend knit-backing for upholstering with the following fabrics (as they are lighter in weight):

Agave, Bettina, Bun, Brink of Summer, Caerulea, Half Moon, Little Leaves, Matilija, Nasturtium, Sea Garden and Tula.

Will my order ship in a continuous piece?

We usually ship yardage in one continuous piece. We will contact you if we need to ship in multiple pieces.

How should I care for my fabric?

Fabric can be spot cleaned but otherwise should be professionally dry cleaned.

For extra protection against stains and wear, we recommend a non-toxic fabric guard such as ProtectMe or Green Guard, or sending the fabric to Integratect, which is a non-toxic fabric finisher.

Where is my lot number and why is it important?

The dye lot number can be found on your packing slip. Our fabric is made in small batches and all of our colors are hand-mixed each production run. Due to the nature of how our fabric is made, we cannot guarantee an exact match in shades from one dye lot to another. This is important to keep in mind when ordering additional fabric for the same project.

Is there a lead time?

Lead time can vary depending on stock. If we have the fabric in stock your order is estimated to ship within 2-3 business days. If your order needs to be printed, lead time can vary from 6-10 weeks, depending on the pattern. Please feel free to contact us at orders@lakeaugust.com to check stock.
